About nursing home abuse

Abuse of residents of nursing homes in California and the rest of the country is not uncommon. Neglect, one of the most frequently occurring types of abuse, takes place when residents are not afforded the proper level of care that they require. While the level of care will vary with each individual, the proper level of care often entails residents receiving basic hygiene services, help with eating and assistance with their mobility.

Pressure sore prevention is a must in managed care settings

Patients in a managed care setting, which includes those in skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, must be provided with proper care. Because of the physical limitations of many patients in these centers, it is imperative that staff members are ready and able to help them with vital activities. Negligence in nursing facilities can lead to serious health issues for the residents.

Traffic fatalities surpass 40,000 in 2017

California motorists may be interested to learn that at least 40,000 people died as the result of motor vehicle accidents in 2017, according to preliminary data from the National Safety Council. Furthermore, over 4.5 billion people were injured in auto accidents that same year. While the rate of driving-related accidents should ideally begin to decrease, the rates are almost identical to those in 2016. This means that instead of driving accidents being reduced, they're remaining the same.

Symposium addresses summertime distracted driving

California residents, especially those who are planning a road trip for the summer, may be interested in a symposium that the Travelers Institute held back in June. The Every Second Matters event was intended to raise the public's consciousness of distracted driving and show that it can be just as risky as driving drunk or without a seatbelt.

Car electronics systems may be dangerously distracting

Motor vehicle accident deaths in California and around the country have risen sharply in recent years, and many road safety experts put the blame drivers who stare at their cellphones instead of watching the road ahead. The dangers of using cellphones or tablets while behind the wheel are well known and electronics manufacturers are developing systems designed to make their devices less distracting, but a study conducted by the American Automobile Association suggests that sophisticated vehicle navigation and entertainment systems could be just as dangerous.
