    Do not leave before police or first responders arrive if you can remain safely. Ask for a police report when applicable.

  3. Document everything

    Take photos of vehicles, property damage, injuries, and the scene. Collect names and phone numbers of witnesses.

  4. Do not admit fault

    Avoid apologizing or guessing what happened. Do not sign insurance forms or give a recorded statement before speaking with a lawyer.

  5. Preserve evidence

    Keep damaged property, clothing, medical records, bills, and any correspondence from insurers.
